Dave Ryan

Dave Ryan, following a successful career in general business and management at IBM, served 28 years on City of Pickering Council as Councillor 1994-2003 and 5 terms as Mayor 2003-2022.

A proven leader experienced in government and community relations, Ryan has served on the Association of Municipalities Ontario, the Ontario’s Big City Mayors, and Federation of Canadian Municipalities. He has also served on the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority.

Ryan has embedded sustainability and environmental stewardship into the culture and operations during his municipal tenure, and as such, Pickering has won national awards for its demonstrated leadership in conservation, sustainability, and engagement. In addition, he was previously recognized as ‘One of Canada’s Greenest Mayors’ by Alive Magazine.

Under his leadership he has helped steer the city through investments in several transformational projects, including the new community of Seaton; Durham Live – a 200-acre entertainment and tourism district; and Pickering’s bold new vision for an urban, accessible, connected, walkable, and vibrant downtown.
