Jim Schembri
Principal
Jim Schembri brings to the Aurora team a mix of private and public sector experience. Schembri has spent time serving both industry and political leaders. During his time running his own public relations and communications firm, Schembri managed and lead accounts in manufacturing, B2B and not for profit. While operating his PR firm, Schembri volunteered extensively with the Brampton Board of Trade sitting as the volunteer Vice President of Policy and eventually as Chair of the Board of Trade. He used this time to build relationships with community leaders, political leaders and thought leaders.
Leveraging his extensive political connections, Schembri connected his clients with federal and provincial cabinet ministers leading to growth and expansion of their businesses domestically and internationally. Schembri also worked toconnect his clients with Trade Commissioners leading to participation in several overseas Trade Missions.
Schembri has extensive experience serving politicians at the municipal, provincial and federal level as an important campaign and political strategist. Serving as the Director of Communications to the mayor of one of Canada’s largest cities, Schembri developed and broadened his skills to include speech writing, media relations and community outreach and relations. As a trusted political advisor Schembri also lead many political campaigns providing key insight on the current mood in the community on a broad scope of issues.
Capitalizing on his experience in the political world, community relations and years on the local hospital’s advisory committee, Schembri took on an interim role at his local health system. During his time there, he worked with a team of communications professionals to mitigate potential impact of negative volume stories and perceived issues. Schembri also worked with the senior executive team to develop an advocacy plan to gain commitment of the local city council expanding the health system’s voice at Queens Park.
Schembri is also a three time Ironman and multiple marathon finisher. He tackles the 226 kilometer race with passion, planning and love of the sport always striving to achieve more, go further and go faster. He is also currently working on his Master’s at McMaster University in Communications Management.
